First Question
Almost everyone calling about a windshield wants one thing settled before anything else. Is this the cheap fix or the expensive one. You can answer it in about ten seconds standing next to the car, with a tape measure or just a finger for scale.
Damage smaller than about three inches, sitting away from the driver's line of sight and away from the edge of the glass. That is a repair. It takes under thirty minutes, and a good number of policies cover it with nothing out of pocket at all.
Anything longer than roughly three inches, anything sitting in your sight line, and anything that runs out to the edge of the glass. Sight line damage stays faintly visible after a repair, and edge damage undermines the bond holding the windshield in place. Budget one to two hours.
The line between those two only ever moves in one direction, and in this climate it moves quickly. A chip picked up on a Monday merge is still a repair on Wednesday. The Roads
This is a young working town. The median age sits around thirty, most households have somebody out the door early, and very few of those jobs are inside the city limits. That adds up to a lot of windshield hours on roads that were never gentle to begin with.
Grand Avenue cuts through the northwest valley as US 60, which puts freight, commuters and local traffic on the same diagonal at the same time of the morning. Everything else runs on Dysart Road, El Mirage Road, Thunderbird Road and Cactus Road, and the newer connections out to Northern Parkway and Loop 303 have made the trip to the rest of the valley faster without making it any cleaner.

A windshield is the pane people plan for. The ones that wreck a week are the side and rear windows, because they break with no warning at all and they leave a mess in the car behind them.

Arizona can cite a driver for damage that obstructs a clear view of the road, so a crack sitting across your sight line is worth handling before it becomes a conversation on the shoulder. The structural case is stronger still. A bonded windshield helps hold the roof up and gives the passenger airbag something to push against.
