Windshield replacement that pulls into your driveway

Damage under three inches usually repairs. Anything larger, or anything sitting in your line of sight, needs new glass. We assess it honestly, quote it up front, and fit it where your car is already parked.

The Clock Starts at the Chip

Why waiting turns a cheap fix into new glass

A star break the size of a dime looks like something you can live with. In Arizona it rarely stays that size for long. Glass expands when the cabin hits a hundred and forty degrees in a parking lot and contracts again the moment the air conditioning runs, and every one of those cycles pulls at the edges of the damage until the break finds somewhere new to travel.

That is the whole reason we tell people to call the same week it happens instead of the next time they think about it. A chip we can fill in half an hour costs a fraction of a full replacement, and in most cases insurance covers the repair outright. Once the break runs past three inches or wanders into the sweep of the driver's vision, that option is gone and the entire windshield has to come out.

Heat and cold cycling

Parking in full sun and then blasting the AC puts the outer and inner layers of laminated glass under opposing stress. Existing damage is the weak point that gives first.

Rough pavement and washboard

Flex from potholes, dirt roads and expansion joints travels through the body of the car into the glass. A windshield already carrying a break will spread it on a long drive.

Structure, not just a window

Your windshield helps hold the roof up in a rollover and gives the passenger airbag something to push against. Damaged glass is not only a visibility problem.

Repair or Replace

The three inch rule, and the two exceptions to it

Not every crack means a new windshield. Damage that has not spidered out yet can usually be filled with resin, cured, and polished back to a solid piece of glass in about half an hour. The cost is a fraction of a replacement and the repair restores the strength the break took away.

The working threshold is three inches. Under three inches and outside the driver's line of sight, we repair. Over three inches, and the laminate has lost too much integrity to trust. The two exceptions catch people out: damage sitting directly in your field of view gets replaced even when it is small, because a cured resin repair leaves a faint distortion you would be looking through every day, and damage that reaches the edge of the glass gets replaced regardless of length, because the perimeter is where the windshield is bonded to the body.

We repair when

  • The chip or crack measures under three inches
  • It sits outside the sweep of the driver's vision
  • It has not reached the edge of the glass
  • The break has not started to spider

We replace when

  • The crack runs longer than three inches
  • Damage blocks the driver's view
  • The break touches the edge or the frit band
  • The inner layer of the laminate is compromised

If you are already booked for a full replacement and you have a chip in another piece of glass, tell us. Chip repair is free with a full windshield replacement, and it takes us a few extra minutes while we are already at your car.

Insurance, Handled

The claim call you do not have to make alone

Most drivers who carry comprehensive coverage are entitled to glass repair or replacement and never use it, usually because the claim call feels like more trouble than the crack. We take that part off your plate. We work with every insurance carrier, and we get on the phone with you and your insurer at the same time so nothing gets lost between three separate conversations.

1

We look at the damage first

Send a photo or let us see it in person. We tell you honestly whether it repairs or replaces, because that answer changes what you are claiming and often changes what you owe.

2

Have your policy number ready

Policy number, the date the damage happened, and a couple of photos are all the insurer usually wants. Having those in hand is the difference between a five minute call and a callback tomorrow.

3

We make it a three way call

You, us, and your carrier on one line. We answer the technical questions about the glass and the vehicle, you confirm what you need to confirm, and the claim is approved before anybody hangs up.

4

We come to you and fit it

Once it is approved we schedule around your day, not ours, and drive to wherever the car is sitting. No shop visit, no waiting room, no extra charge for the trip.

No coverage, or a deductible that makes a claim pointless? Say so on the first call. Our out of pocket pricing is competitive and the quote we give you is the price you pay.

What It Costs

Why two identical looking windshields quote differently

There is no single price for a windshield, and any shop that gives you one before asking what you drive is guessing. Three things move the number, and once you know them a quote stops feeling arbitrary.

The vehicle

A work truck and a late model SUV do not use the same glass, the same moulding, or the same amount of labor to get the old piece out cleanly.

The glass itself

Original equipment glass carries the manufacturer's mark and price. Quality aftermarket glass is made to the same safety standard and costs less. We will tell you which one your quote is built on.

What the glass does

Rain sensors, heated wiper park areas, acoustic interlayers and heads up display all live in the windshield on newer vehicles, and each one changes the part.

With comprehensive coverage in place, most of that is academic. Many drivers pay little or nothing out of pocket once the claim goes through, which is exactly why the claim call is worth making. Ask us about the current cash back offer on replacement when you call, because it changes what the job costs you and it is not always the same from month to month.

Rear Windshield Replacement

Back glass is a different job entirely

People assume the rear windshield is just a smaller version of the front one. It is not. Front glass is laminated, which is why it cracks and holds together. Back glass on most vehicles is tempered, which is why it does not crack at all. It sits intact until the moment it fails and then it comes apart into thousands of blunt pieces across your back seat and cargo area.

That changes the work. There is no repairing tempered glass, so a break means replacement every time, and a good portion of the job is getting the fragments out of the seat rails, the trim channels and the spare tire well so they are not rattling around six months from now. We replace rear glass on cars, trucks and SUVs, and we treat the cleanup as part of the job rather than something you handle afterward.

Windshield Tint Strip

The strip across the top that earns its keep

A tint strip across the top of the windshield is the cheapest comfort upgrade on a car in this state. It cuts the low sun that arrives right at the height of your eyes on an eastbound morning drive, drops the glare coming off the hood of the truck in front of you, and blocks a meaningful share of the ultraviolet light that is slowly bleaching your dashboard.

It also just looks finished. We can add one while the new glass is going in, which is the sensible time to do it, and we will talk through how far down the strip should come so it does its job without cutting into the part of the glass you actually need to see through.

Install Day

What actually happens in your driveway

Mobile replacement is not a compromise version of shop work. It is the same procedure done where your car already is. Here is the shape of it, so nothing about the appointment is a surprise.

1

Setup and protection

Covers go over the hood, the dash and the front seats. Wipers, cowl and any trim across the base of the glass come off so the old windshield can be reached properly.

2

The old glass comes out

The urethane bead holding the windshield is cut through and the glass is lifted clear. Done carelessly this is where paint gets scored, and scored paint is where rust starts years later.

3

The pinch weld is prepped

Old urethane is trimmed back to a thin even base, the frame is cleaned, and primer goes on any bare metal. This step is invisible in the finished job and it is the one that decides whether the bond holds.

4

New glass is set and cured

A fresh bead of urethane goes down, the windshield is set into position, and trim and wipers go back on. We tell you how long to leave it before driving and before running it through a wash.

5

We stand behind it

Our work carries a limited lifetime warranty. If something comes up after the install, a leak, a whistle, a piece of trim that never sat right, you call us and we come back out.

People Also Ask

Windshield replacement questions we get every week

Can a windshield be repaired if the crack is too big?

If the crack runs longer than about three inches, or it sits in the driver's line of sight, it almost always needs replacement rather than repair. We assess the damage before quoting so you are not paying for a replacement you did not need, or trusting a repair that will not hold.

Will my insurance cover windshield repair or replacement?

If you carry comprehensive coverage, glass is very likely covered. Many carriers cover chip repair outright. We work with every insurance company and set up a three way call so the claim gets filed correctly the first time.

How long does windshield replacement take?

Usually one to two hours from the time we arrive to the time the trim goes back on. Chip repair is far quicker, generally under thirty minutes. We will also tell you how long to let the adhesive set before you drive.

Is there a warranty on windshield replacement?

Yes. Our workmanship carries a limited lifetime warranty. If an issue comes up after the replacement, such as a leak or a wind noise, we come back out and take care of it.

How can I save money on windshield replacement?

The single biggest saving is using the comprehensive coverage you are already paying for, and we will help you file. Ask about the current cash back offer on replacement when you call, and if the damage is still small, catching it early means a repair instead of a replacement.

Do you charge extra to come to my home or workplace?

No. Mobile service is free anywhere in the valley. The quote we give you over the phone is the price you pay, with no trip charge added on the day.

Can you replace the rear windshield as well as the front?

Yes. We replace front windshields, back glass, door glass, quarter glass and vent glass. Rear glass is a different procedure from front glass, and cleaning the tempered fragments out of the interior is part of the job.

Is it illegal to drive with a cracked windshield in Arizona?

Damage that obstructs the driver's clear view can get you cited in Arizona, and a crack in the wrong place counts. Beyond the ticket, damaged glass weakens the structure the roof and the passenger airbag depend on.
